Our Story

At Empire State Signs, we take pride in our rich history and commitment to quality. Founded in the early 1930s, our company has been a leading provider of custom signs and graphics in New York State and beyond for over 75 years. Our story began when Georges Claude, the inventor of neon tubes, sold franchises in the United States. Buffalo was one of the early franchises, which eventually became Eastern Signs located at 75 Bird Avenue, Buffalo. The company was then sold in 1986 to Neal and Dennis Wilcox, changing its name to Wilcox Brothers Sign and moving to a new location in Tonawanda. As our business expanded, we changed our name to Empire State Signs.

Our Team

Our team consists of experienced professionals, including Neal Wilcox, our founder, who has 47 years of experience in the industry. John Wilcox, with 15 years of experience, is also part of our team. Dennis and Rob Wilcox, both with over 45 and 10 years of experience respectively, bring their expertise to the table. Our staff is dedicated to providing exceptional service and ensuring that our clients receive high-quality products that meet their needs.

Our Services

Our team uses the latest software and techniques to design and fabricate custom signs, letters, and graphics. We have a fully automated shop with a 15,000 square foot facility, allowing us to produce signs economically with precision and quality.

• Design: Our graphic designers create custom designs from scratch or work with your design to produce high-quality signs.
• Fabrication: We have been fabricating all types of signs in our facility for over 75 years, ensuring that every sign meets our high standards.
• Installation: Our trucks are equipped to install and service signs, whether they were produced in-house or shipped in from national sign companies.

Our Products

We offer a variety of custom signs and graphics, including:

• Individual Letter Signs: These signs can be cutout, molded plastic, or fabricated aluminum letters, available in any style, color, or architectural finish.
• Illuminated Letter Signs: Face-lit or halo-lit channel letters that are internally illuminated with plastic faces or metal faces for a "halo" effect.
• Pylon Signs: Freestanding signs that are typically illuminated, double-faced, and made from aluminum or stainless-steel frames, plastic, or routed aluminum faces.
• Ground Signs: Custom low-profile signs that are typically less than 8' in height from grade.
• Interior (ADA) Signs: Manufactured to meet ADA requirements, featuring raised copy/graphics and braille for accessibility.
